Find out more about Invisalign and how it could finally fix your misaligned smile.invisalign

If you are an adult perhaps you think it’s too late to fix that gap in your front teeth or other misalignments in your smile. Think again. It’s never too late to get the smile you want. Our West Roxbury, MA, dentists know that the idea of wearing metal braces isn't appealing to most people, which is why we are happy to offer Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?

We know that most people have heard of Invisalign but that many people don’t exactly know how they work. Invisalign is made up of several clear, plastic aligners, which are tailor-made based on impressions and measurements taken of your teeth.

Each aligner is designed to shift and move teeth into the proper position to correct everything from minor crookedness and crowding to gaps between teeth, overbites and underbites. Invisalign is able to handle a variety of alignment problems, from milder cases to more serious ones.

How does Invisalign work?

Once you get your aligners it’s important that you wear them as often as possible if you want to see results. Before you get your aligners our West Roxbury, MA, general dentists will need you to come in for an evaluation to make sure that your smile can benefit from this clear orthodontic system. Once we have determined that you are an ideal candidate, we will also need to map out your treatment plan.

For the best results, it’s important that you wear your aligners anytime you aren’t eating or drinking anything, or brushing and flossing your teeth. This means that aligners should be worn for about 22 hours out of the day. The number of aligners you’ll get in your treatment will depend on the severity of your symptoms.

Who is a good candidate for Invisalign?

Besides examining your smile to determine whether your alignment issues can be corrected with Invisalign treatment, there are some other factors that will have to be considered in determining your candidacy. Those factors include:

  • Your oral health
  • Your hygiene
  • Your dedication to your orthodontic treatment
  • Your age (children and young teens aren’t typically good candidates for Invisalign)
